Baseball Recap: Copper Canyon Continues Home Dominance on Monday

Copper Canyon's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over the Browne Bruins. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Aztecs have posted since April 5, 2024.

The result came thanks to Max Torres Felix's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Gabriel Ruelas and Ulysses Encinas did most of the damage at the plate: Ruelas went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI, while Encinas got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

Copper Canyon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Browne only posted a batting average of .190.

Copper Canyon pushed their record up to 2-2-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.2 runs this season. As for Browne, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Copper Canyon didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-4 defeat against Westview on the 17th. As for Browne, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against La Joya Community on the 11th.
