Basketball Recap: Holmes Comes Up Short

Holmes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 18th straight defeat. They were dealt a 71-37 loss at the hands of the Sotomayor WILDCATS. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 991st, while the WILDCATS are ranked 229th).

Despite the loss, Holmes still got an impressive performance from Joseph Ramon, who posted 16 points and five steals. Junior Sanchez was another key player, putting up six points.

Jasiah Saunders continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Sotomayor, going 8 of 15 on his way to 21 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The matchup was Saunders' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Olubunmi Odewole, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Holmes' defeat dropped their record down to 4-26. As for Sotomayor, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-12.

Holmes will head out to take on Harlan at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Harlan is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.8 points per game this season. As for Sotomayor, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Stevens at 5:30 p.m. Sotomayor has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
