Baseball Recap: Biggs Comes Up Short

Biggs extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 11-8 in the process. They lost 12-1 to the Maxwell Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Wolverines have suffered against the Panthers since March 24, 2022.

Biggs saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dennis Dewhurst, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for Maxwell, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games.

On Maxwell's side, Vincent Orozco made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Orozco has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other pitching news, Wyatt Roach looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Brody Jones was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Landon Barrett, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Coincidentally, Biggs and Maxwell will both be playing Durham the next time they take the field. The Wolverines will head out to face the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Panthers will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
