Baseball Recap: Biggs Comes Up Short

Biggs extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 11-8 in the process. They came up short against the Maxwell Panthers, falling 12-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wolverines have suffered since April 30, 2024.

Biggs saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dennis Dewhurst, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for Maxwell, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-3. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Maxwell's side, Vincent Orozco made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Orozco has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other pitching news, Wyatt Roach looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Brody Jones, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Barrett, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Coincidentally, Biggs and Maxwell will both be playing Durham the next time they take the field. The Wolverines will head out to face the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Panthers will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
