Basketball Recap: Lily Mathews' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pamlico Christian Academy over Mount Calvary Christian Academy

After flying high against Heritage Christian Academy two weeks ago, Pamlico Christian Academy came back down to earth. The Pamlico Christian Academy Mariners fell to the Mount Calvary Christian Academy Warriors 39-34. The Mariners were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Warriors earlier this season, when they won 40-28.

Pamlico Christian Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lily Mathews, who went 5 for 10 en route to 16 points and four steals. Mathews is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dannielle Palagyi, who posted two points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Pamlico Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Mount Calvary Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Holly Jo Brick led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Hannah Rice was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 17 boards.

The defeat snapped Pamlico Christian Academy's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 14-8 record. As for Mount Calvary Christian Academy, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 17-4.

Pamlico Christian Academy has already played their next game (against Heritage Christian Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Mount Calvary Christian Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 49-27 victory against Terra Ceia Christian on the 31st.
