Basketball Recap: Ellicott Thunderhawks vs. The Vanguard School Coursers
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ellicott). They escaped with a win on Wednesday against The Vanguard School Coursers by the margin of a single free throw, 55-54. Given the Thunderhawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Coursers are ranked 165th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kassiah Ducworth continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. That's the most points she has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Micheyla Stewart, who went 7 of 15 on her way to 17 points.
Despite the defeat, The Vanguard School had strong showings from Jordyn Christensen, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten boards, and Joy Johncock, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. Johncock is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Lily Blanchard also deserves some recognition as she posted her first blocks of the season.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Ellicott, bringing their record for this year to 6-1. As for The Vanguard School, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4.
Ellicott wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 56-49 win against Las Animas on the 11th. As for The Vanguard School, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 52-16 victory against Banning Lewis Academy on the 10th.
