Recap: Canterbury Cougars vs. Bishop Verot Vikings
The Canterbury Cougars lost against the Bishop Verot Vikings back in January of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Canterbury was outmatched by Bishop Verot at home and fell 70-41. While losing is never fun, Canterbury can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 648th, while Bishop Verot is ranked 148th).
Bishop Verot got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gavin Williams out in front who scored 26 points along with five assists and four steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least 25% of Bishop Verot's points. Another player making a difference was Jerry Ashley, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Canterbury's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Bishop Verot, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.
Canterbury will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Gateway Charter at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Bishop Verot won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cape Coral at 9:00 p.m. on December 16th. Cape Coral is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
