The Flagstaff Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Estrella Foothills Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Flagstaff challenged Agua Fria on Wednesday. Flagstaff never let Agua Fria get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. Considering the Eagles have won four matches by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Will Carpenter was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Payne Lowry, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Flagstaff hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Estrella Foothills can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They put the hurt on Westview with a sharp 21-0 victory. That 21 run margin sets a new team best for the Wolves this season.
Alexander Pond looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Josh Vargas, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Tanner Medina, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.
Flagstaff has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. Estrella Foothills' record now sits at 3-5.
Both Flagstaff and Estrella Foothills just can't seem to miss. Flagstaff has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Estrella Foothills struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.9 hits.
