Basketball Recap: Sandia Comes Up Short on the Road Against Hobbs

Sandia had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell 68-57 to the Hobbs Eagles on Saturday. The Matadors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March.

Despite the defeat, Sandia had strong showings from Isaiah Brown, who almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine boards, and George Smith, who almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. Brown has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 18 times he's played. Jaleel Minnifield was another key player, putting up three points and four steals.

Hobbs' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Malakhi David, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Sanders, who posted ten points and seven boards.

Hobbs has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Sandia didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-42 win against Cibola on the 25th. As for Hobbs, they have also already played their next game, a 60-57 victory against Centennial on the 2nd.
