Baseball Game Preview: Russell Red Devils vs. Betsy Layne Bobcats

The Russell Red Devils will take on the Betsy Layne Bobcats at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last three games Russell has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Russell couldn't beat Lawrence County on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Red Devils fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 9-7. That's two games in a row now that the Red Devils have lost by exactly two runs.

Kyle Mokas made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Russell's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-2 (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Dawson Wada, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Betsy Layne's offense. They lost 17-0 to Floyd Central on Friday. The Bobcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
