Baseball Game Preview: Southwest Dragons vs. Burbank Bulldogs

The Southwest Dragons will face off against the Burbank Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Southwest sitting on four straight wins and Burbank on five.

Southwest lost a heartbreaker the last time they played McCollum, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Saturday's match. The Dragons blew past the Cowboys 12-1 on Saturday.

Jeiden Alfaro made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Joaquin Zamora and David Samudio did most of the damage at the plate: Zamora got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Samudio went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Samudio a new career-high. Raul Zuniga was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Burbank owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 victory over Brackenridge.

Southwest pushed their record up to 18-5-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Burbank, their win bumped their record up to 17-8.

Southwest was able to grind out a solid victory over Burbank in their previous matchup back in February of 2020, winning 5-2. Do the Dragons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
