Baseball Game Preview: Tipton Blue Devils vs. Clinton Prairie Gophers

The Tipton Blue Devils will face off against the Clinton Prairie Gophers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Tipton lost 9-1 to Alexandria-Monroe on Friday. The contest marked the Blue Devils' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Tipton saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Nasser, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

Hamilton Heights hit Clinton Prairie with a eight-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Gophers took a 12-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huskies. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Gophers, who until this game were averaging 3.8 runs allowed.

Clinton Prairie's loss dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Tipton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-10.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tipton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Clinton Prairie struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
