The St. Francis de Sales Knights will challenge the Bowling Green Bobcats at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams were dealt some close losses in their previous games and are determined not to let this one get away.
St. Francis de Sales fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Anthony Wayne on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Generals by a score of 6-4. The Knights' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
St. Francis de Sales got a good showing from Blake Reeder, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Reeder has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Drew Tucker made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Gabe Lisowski was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Bowling Green suffered their closest defeat since April 24th on Saturday. They fell just short of Springfield by a score of 8-6.
Carter Earl was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Earl was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Bowling Green's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 4-18 when he doesn't).
Earl wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brennan Howard, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Another was Colby Joseph, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
St. Francis de Sales' loss dropped their record down to 18-10. As for Bowling Green, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-19 record this season.
Everything went St. Francis de Sales' way against Bowling Green when the teams last played back in April, as St. Francis de Sales made off with a 10-4 victory. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Bobcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
