            Baseball Recap: Deep Run Wildcats vs. Godwin Eagles        
        
		
        
        
            Deep Run dropped their record down to 12-7 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Godwin Eagles by a score of  2-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup  6-4  back in April.
 Will Frank was a  force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he  pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off   six  hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in seven consecutive appearances.
 On the hitting side, Deep Run saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Jacob Saunders, who  went 1-for-3 with one  stolen base.
As for Godwin, they are  on a roll lately: they've  won six of their last eight games. That somehow still isn't as good as their 13-4 record  this season. The  victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.
On Godwin's side,  the result came thanks to  Luke Smyers's shutout, as he gave up just two  hits and racked up 14 Ks.
 At the plate,  Matthew Hartsfield was  excellent,  going 2-for-3 with two  doubles and one  run. That's the most  hits  he has posted since back in March.
 We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Deep Run will  take on  rival Freeman  at 6:00  p.m.  on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few  runs on average (the Wildcats 3.3, the Mavericks 3.5) so any  runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Godwin is set to  face off against  their familiar foe Hermitage  at 5:30  p.m.  on Monday.
