Baseball Recap: Gunn Comes Up Short

Gunn had lost four straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 8-12 to make it five. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pioneer Mustangs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Titans of the 4-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2017.

Gunn saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Albert Pellizzari, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Pioneer, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

On Pioneer's side, Jayden Goodrich and Ben Kennaday did most of the damage at the plate: Goodrich went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Kennaday went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those three RBI gave Goodrich a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Flores, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Gunn will venture away from home to face off against Mountain View at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Titans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Pioneer, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Branham at 4:00 p.m.
