Basketball Game Preview: Serra Catholic Eagles vs. Geibel Catholic Gators

The Serra Catholic Eagles will face off against the Geibel Catholic Gators at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Geibel Catholic will be up against a hot Serra Catholic team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Serra Catholic walked away with a 65-56 victory over Clairton on Wednesday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while the Bears are ranked 373rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Geibel Catholic made easy work of Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday and carried off an 87-65 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Gators.

Serra Catholic better focus on containing Gary Tarbuk and Evan Strimel as the pair were huge in Geibel Catholic's win. Tarbuk went 8 of 16 en route to 19 points along with seven assists and six steals, while Strimel went 7 for 14 on his way to 20 points and eight assists. The match was Strimel's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Seth Dolan, who went 5 of 12 en route to 14 points.

Geibel Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Geibel Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.8 points per game. As for Serra Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 13-2.
