Basketball Recap: Lumberton Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Lumberton waltzed into their match on Wednesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They took their game with ease, bagging a 75-40 win over the Douglas Byrd Eagles. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 22 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Jaiden Shephard, who went 5 for 6 on his way to 14 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 43 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Nate Lawson, who posted 11 points.

Douglas Byrd's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Liam Irizarry, who scored 11 points and five steals, and Anthony Winston, who had 15 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Irizarry a new career-high in steals. Peter Sauveur was another key player, putting up four points and six rebounds.

Lumberton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Douglas Byrd, their defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-14.

Lumberton will have a chance to go back-to-back against Douglas Byrd: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
