Soccer Game Preview: Somerville vs. Bernards

The Somerville Pioneers will head out to square off against the Bernards Mountaineers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bernards has given up an average of 4.2 goals per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Coming off of a narrow one-goal win over Toms River North, Somerville left no doubt about the outcome versus Franklin on Tuesday. The Pioneers' defense stepped up to hand the Warriors a 5-0 shutout. That looming 5-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Somerville yet this season.

Meanwhile, Bernards was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 6-0 to Gill St. Bernard's.

Somerville's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 18 goals over those four matchups. As for Bernards, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
