Football Recap: Gatsbee Gumban's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Covina over Chino

Covina came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Chino Cowboys, falling 49-27. The Colts haven't had much luck with the Cowboys recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Several Colts players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gatsbee Gumban, who rushed for 65 yards and one TD, and also picked up 54 receiving yards and one touchdown. Matt Olivas was another key pass catcher, picking up 93 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Chino's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Markell Monroe led the charge by picking up 183 receiving yards and three TDs. Monroe showed off some serious burst, connecting on a big catch for 62 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Bull, who rushed for 159 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.8 yards per carry.

Covina's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Chino, their record now sits at 2-4.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Covina is set to face off against their familiar foe Los Altos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Roy Vazquez and DIEGO CASTILLO. Meanwhile, Chino will take on rival Walnut at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
