Baseball Recap: Lakewood Wins Going Away Against Asbury Park

Lakewood won the last time they faced Asbury Park and things went their way on Friday too. The Piners blew past the Bishops 18-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Piners.

Abel Martinez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cris Rosario was incredible, going 2-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one double. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Avani Crudup also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 6-8. As for Asbury Park, they dropped their record down to 0-9 with the loss, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Lakewood will take on Neptune at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Asbury Park, they will challenge Pinelands Regional at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
