Softball Game Preview: Elma Eagles vs. Montesano Bulldogs

Elma is 1-9 against Montesano since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Eagles will look to defend their home field against the Bulldogs at 3:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Montesano will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Elma extended their winning streak to four two weeks ago. The Eagles blew past Hoquiam 19-6. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, in Monday's Canine Competition, Montesano prevailed. They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over Black Hills on Monday. The victory was nothing new for the Bulldogs as they're now sitting on three straight.

Grace Gooding made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Gooding was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Montesano got a massive performance out of Ali Parkin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI Parkin has posted since back in May of 2024. Liv Robinson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI.

Montesano kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.

Montesano pushed their record up to 4-3-2 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Elma, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
