Softball Recap: Hackleburg Drops Season-High Score on Vina

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hackleburg). They put the hurt on the Vina Red Devils with a sharp 13-1 win on Tuesday. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Red Devils recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Laine Steward made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Brooklyn Butler and Mariela Garcia did most of the damage at the plate: Butler went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Garcia went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Bryleigh Butler was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Hackleburg hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in seven consecutive games.

Hackleburg's record now sits at 9-2. As for Vina, they dropped their record down to 4-8 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Hackleburg beat Vina by a score of 15-0 later that day.
