The Martinsville Artesians will challenge the Terre Haute North Vigo Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Martinsville has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with 20 straight defeats, while Terre Haute North Vigo will come in with five straight wins.
Last Wednesday, Martinsville came up short against Perry Meridian and fell 6-1.
Martinsville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaxton Proctor, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Terre Haute North Vigo made sure to put some runs up on the board against South Vermillion on Monday. The Patriots blew past the Wildcats 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Nate Millington made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Terre Haute North Vigo let Brayden Dean and Parker Higham run wild. Dean went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while Higham went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most hits Dean has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Black, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Terre Haute North Vigo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Terre Haute North Vigo's record now sits at 15-8. As for Martinsville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-19.
Martinsville came up short against Terre Haute North Vigo in their previous matchup back in May of 2016, falling 4-1. Can the Artesians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
