Soccer Game Preview: Homer vs. Houston

The Homer Mariners will face off against the Houston Hawks at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Homer's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for six straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Homer is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Colony, who was ranked fifth at the time (Homer was ranked 18th). The Mariners came up short against the Knights on Friday, falling 5-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Meanwhile, Houston didn't have quite enough to beat Redington on Tuesday and fell 4-3. Houston have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Homer's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7-1. As for Houston, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.

Everything went Homer's way against Houston when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as Homer made off with an 8-0 win. Will the Mariners repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
