Marathon is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Monday. They will venture away from home to square off against the Glades Day Gators at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Marathon is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Miami Country Day with a sharp 25-6 win on Friday. With that victory, the Dolphins brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.
Jack Chapman made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Chapman was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Jason Stubblefield Jr. was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Andrew Suarez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Marathon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .559. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, while Glades Day put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Inlet Grove. Glades Day blew past Inlet Grove 17-0. That looming 17-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Gators yet this season.
Jett Echols looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Giles Maxwell was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of James Alderman, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Marathon has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. Glades Day picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 3-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Marathon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Glades Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
