Softball Recap: L.C. Bird Takes a Loss

L.C. Bird extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-9 in the process. They came up short against the Midlothian Trojans, falling 21-0. If the Skyhawks were looking for revenge after losing 17-0 to the Trojans when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

L.C. Bird saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Courtney Spence, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double marked the first that Spence has hit this season.

As for Midlothian, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 11-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 6.9 runs this season.

On Midlothian's side, Lea Foldeneaur and Erika Fiege were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Foldeneaur tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Fiege tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Foldeneaur went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI, while Fiege went 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Foldeneaur a new career-high.

In other batting news, Charlotte Corcoran was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josie Renschler, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. L.C. Bird is set to take on their familiar foe Richmond High School for the Arts at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Midlothian will square off against rival Powhatan at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Trojans 0.9, the Indians 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
