Maddy Breen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Olivia Lemanski was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Penny Nieves, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: St. Thomas More kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 8.8.
Meanwhile, Greenfield fell victim to Waukesha West and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 10-0 to the Wolverines. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Hawks' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Greenfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Calla Gbur, who went 1-for-2 with one triple.
The victory got St. Thomas More back to even at 5-5. As for Greenfield, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.
Greenfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. St. Thomas More has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Greenfield, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will St. Thomas More keep running through batters, or will the Hawks buck the trend?
St. Thomas More suffered a grim 17-4 defeat to Greenfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Cavaliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
