Basketball Game Preview: South Effingham Mustangs vs. Effingham County Rebels

South Effingham is on a three-game streak of home losses, Effingham County a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Wednesday. The South Effingham Mustangs will welcome the Effingham County Rebels at 7:30 p.m. South Effingham is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.8 points per game this season.

South Effingham is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Brunswick on Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. South Effingham had to suffer through a 93-57 loss at the hands of Brunswick. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 383rd, while the Pirates are ranked 45th).

Despite the loss, South Effingham had strong showings from Marcus Campbell, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 20 points, and Corbin Mcguire, who posted 12 points. The dominant performance gave Campbell a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nelson Rivera, who had four points.

Even though they lost, South Effingham smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 17 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Effingham County didn't have quite enough to beat Evans on Tuesday and fell 51-49.

South Effingham's defeat dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Effingham County, their loss dropped their record down to 8-14.

South Effingham barely slipped by Effingham County in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, winning 63-62. Will South Effingham repeat their success, or does Effingham County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
