Jay County won the last time they faced Eastern and things went their way on Saturday too. The Patriots put the hurt on the Comets with a sharp 14-4 win. Considering the Patriots have won ten contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Peterson was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hallie Schwieterman, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Jay County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastern only posted an OBP of .286.
The victory (which was Jay County's fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Eastern, they moved to 8-10 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
Coming up, Jay County is taking a road trip to square off against New Castle at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Eastern, they will take on Marion in a tournament on Saturday. The Comets' pitcher better be ready for this one: the Giants have averaged an impressive 9.3 runs per game this season.
