Williams Valley is a perfect 7-0 against Weatherly since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Vikings will look to defend their home field against Weatherly at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Williams Valley has five straight wins, Weatherly has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Weatherly's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday: Williams Valley hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Vikings' pitcher stepped up to hand Shenandoah Valley a 21-0 shutout on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won 11 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Sage Smeltz made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Smeltz was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayla Hand, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Cierra Brill, who got on base in both of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Williams Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shenandoah Valley only posted an OBP of .111.
Meanwhile, Weatherly fell victim to Marian Catholic and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against Marian Catholic, falling 23-0. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, Weatherly's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Williams Valley's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Weatherly, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.
Williams Valley took their victory against Weatherly in their previous matchup on April 1st by a conclusive 25-0 score. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do Weatherly have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
