Recap: Northeast Eagles vs. Springfield Yellow Jackets
The Northeast Eagles lost against the Springfield Yellow Jackets on January 12th, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Northeast took a serious blow against the Yellow Jackets, falling 73-37. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Northeast in their matchups with the Yellow Jackets: they've now lost four in a row.
Northeast's loss came despite strong showings from Qimara Summers and Damonei Peterson. Summers scored 15 points along with two steals, while Peterson scored eight points. Summers has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.
Springfield had a senior duo take command as Rayne Erickson almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds and Olivia Merritt almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Merritt has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Micayla Harrison, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Northeast's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-10. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.7 points per game. As for Springfield, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season.
