Softball Game Preview: Fort Dorchester Patriots vs. Beaufort Eagles

The Fort Dorchester Patriots will face off against the Beaufort Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Beaufort will be up against a hot Fort Dorchester team: the squad just extended their winning streak to ten. Fort Dorchester blew past West Ashley 9-2 last Friday. While the Patriots didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-9), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Mila Lorenzano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Hailey Greatrex was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Giet, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and one double.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Beaufort, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Hilton Head Island a 14-0 shutout on Friday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Seahawks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Beaufort got a massive performance out of Kyra Raines, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Caylin Adkins, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.

Beaufort hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Fort Dorchester pushed their record up to 10-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Beaufort, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
