Football Recap: Pine Tree Comes Up Short at Home Against Gilmer

Pine Tree unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a hard 41-25 fall against the Gilmer Buckeyes on Friday. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Buckeyes apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Gilmer was led to victory by Tayveon Horne and Zade Taylor. Horne rushed for 151 yards and two TDs, while Taylor rushed for 71 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries. The dominant performance also gave Taylor a new career-high in passing yards (148). Atavian Ector was in the mix as well, providing Gilmer with one score.

Coming up, Pine Tree will square off against Van at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Gilmer, they will take on Chapel Hill at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
