Softball Preview: University Prep Panthers vs. Central Valley Falcons

The University Prep Panthers will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Central Valley Falcons at 4:30 p.m. University Prep's pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so Central Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

University Prep lost 8-2 to West Valley on Tuesday.

Megan Boudro put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Boudro has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive pitching appearances. Boudro was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-2 with a home run and a stolen base.

Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought game, but Central Valley had to settle for a 5-3 loss against Lassen on Tuesday. Central Valley has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Like University Prep, Central Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Joleen Short. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Short was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a stolen base, and a run.

Short wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ava Lanzit, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

University Prep's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-3-1. As for Central Valley, their record is now 9-11.

University Prep was able to grind out a solid victory over Central Valley when the teams last played back in April, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for University Prep since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
