Recap: SkyView Academy Hawks vs. Gilpin County Eagles
The SkyView Academy Hawks struggled with threes on Friday (the Gilpin County Eagles had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. SkyView Academy lost to Gilpin County at home by a decisive 46-29 margin. While losing is never fun, SkyView Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while Gilpin County is ranked 112th).
SkyView Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Maggie Barrett, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Barrett is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Slocum, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Gilpin County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was KAILEE STARKEY, who scored 13 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was FAITH RAMSEY, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
SkyView Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for Gilpin County, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
SkyView Academy will stay at home for another game and welcome Clear Creek at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Clear Creek comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Gilpin County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Kiowa at 5:30 p.m. on January 17th. Kiowa has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
