Recap: Maiden Blue Devils vs. Lincolnton Wolves
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but The Maiden Blue Devils ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 37-34 win over Lincolnton. The victory was just what Maiden needed coming off of a 49-9 loss in their prior matchup.
Josh Stover had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 185 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 73 yards and a touchdown. Maiden also got a significant boost from Kendall Roberts, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 131 yards.
When it comes to explaining why Lincolnton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Andre Bost. Despite the final result, he rushed for 228 yards and a touchdown while picking up 12.7 yards per carry, and also threw for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Bost is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Khamoni Heath, who rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Even if they lost, Lincolnton's defensive line still kept up the pressure with six sacks. Leading the way was Peyton Rangel and his two sacks.
Maiden has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Lincolnton, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Maiden will be playing at home against Newton-Conover at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Newton-Conover is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Lincolnton, they will head out on the road to face off against West Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Lincoln is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
