Basketball Recap: Liberty Comes Up Short

After flying high against Hempstead last Tuesday, Liberty came back down to earth. The Liberty Lightning were dealt a 96-58 defeat at the hands of the Linn-Mar Lions on Friday. The Lightning have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Liberty lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Brady Randall, who posted 12 points and five boards. Collin Decker was another key player, putting up 12 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Liberty smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Liberty's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Linn-Mar, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Liberty will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Linn-Mar will also get a bit of a break before their next matchup: they'll face off against Pleasant Valley at 10:00 a.m. on December 31st.
