Basketball Game Preview: Arapahoe Warriors vs. Mullen Mustangs

Arapahoe hasn't had much luck against Mullen recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Arapahoe Warriors will look to defend their home court against the Mullen Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Gianna Smith and Makenzie Jones.

Arapahoe is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Cherokee Trail on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Arapahoe came up short against Cherokee Trail, falling 74-50. The Warriors were down 61-35 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Meanwhile, Mullen came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 61-47 victory over the Trailblazers.

Mullen's win came from a few key players Arapahoe will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Keaton Arangua-Egbert, who posted 13 points in addition to eight boards and six assists. Those eight rebounds gave her a new career-high. Cheyenne Huber was another key player, going 6 for 8 on her way to 14 points.

Mullen pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.7 points per game. As for Arapahoe, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.

Arapahoe and Mullen were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, but Arapahoe came up empty-handed after a 51-50 defeat.
