The Fremont Wolves will take on the Maple Mountain Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Fremont will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Fremont is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Wasatch 13-11. That's two games straight that the Wolves have won by exactly two runs.
Ashur Clark and Calvin Cooper did most of the damage at the plate: Clark went 3-for-5 with one home run, two doubles, and two RBI, while Cooper went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI Cooper has posted since back in March. Bodee Hawkins was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs.
Meanwhile, Maple Mountain got the win against Salem Hills on Thursday by a conclusive 10-4. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Cache Petersen looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Maple Mountain let Mitch Walker and Kye Ward run wild. Walker went 2-for-5 with one home run and four RBI, while Ward went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Beenfield, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Maple Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .353 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Fremont's victory bumped their record up to 19-8. As for Maple Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 22-6.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fremont has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. However, it's not like Maple Mountain struggles in that department as they've averaged .470. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fremont might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Maple Mountain in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
