Football Game Preview: Maiden Blue Devils vs. Hibriten Panthers

Two dominant backs in Shannon Wingate and Dk Mitchell are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Maiden Blue Devils will venture away from home to challenge the Hibriten Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Maiden is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Newton-Conover as they made off with a 29-6 victory. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won five games by 21 points or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Hibriten came tearing into Friday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 14-9 W against the Storm. Those 14 points were actually the fewest the Panthers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

One reason for the win was Hibriten's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Grady Beam, Evan Hollie, and Ashton Woodruff, who each picked up one sack apiece. Drew Martin was another major factor on D, forcing one fumble and making 13 total tackles.

Hibriten's win bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Maiden, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.

Maiden was taken down by Hibriten 49-20 in their previous matchup back in August of 2016. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
