Wiregrass Ranch is 8-2 against Pasco since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Bulls will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Wiregrass Ranch turned things around against Land O' Lakes on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Gators. Wiregrass Ranch's victory was all the more impressive since the Gators were averaging only 3.35 runs allowed on the season.
Connor Sutton looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Julius Jessurun was incredible, going 3-for-5 with five RBI and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Pedro Castro, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Wiregrass Ranch kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Land O' Lakes only managed six hits.
Pasco never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Central last Thursday. They blew past the Bears 10-3. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Andrew Blommel made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Blommel was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Boomer Newton, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Yanuel 'Yanni' Mercado was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Wiregrass Ranch's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-11. As for Pasco, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wiregrass Ranch has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pasco struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wiregrass Ranch took their win against Pasco in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-0 score. Do the Bulls have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
