Softball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Riverton Parke's Winning Streak

Riverton Parke dropped their record down to 26-5 on Saturday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell 5-0 to the North Newton Spartans. The Panthers were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the four matchups prior), but the Spartans' pitchers proved too tough.

As for North Newton, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 22-3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.2 runs on average over those games.

For North Newton's part, not much got past Sydney Rainford, who gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks to keep Riverton Parke off the board. Rainford has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 21 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Macy Busboom was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run. Rylynn Klemz was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Riverton Parke does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for North Newton, they will face off against Southwood at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
