Volleyball Recap: Cardinal Mooney Takes a Loss

Cardinal Mooney was the 3-0 winner over Venice when they last played one another back in September, but their luck changed this time around. The Cougars came up short against the Indians on Tuesday, falling 3-0.

The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Venice scored at least 17 points in every set. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-17, 25-21.

Charlee Hermann paced Cardinal Mooney's offense, picking up seven kills. Hermann got some help from Brooke Gruhl and her 14 assists. Gruhl was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Amelia Anselmi had an outrageously good game for Venice as she had six digs and one block. Anselmi is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 14 or more in each of the last 11 games she's played.

Cardinal Mooney has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season. As for Venice, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-12.

Cardinal Mooney has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Riverview Sarasota on the 9th. As for Venice, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-2 victory against Bradenton Christian on the 8th.
