Baseball Recap: Malcolm Takes Down Ranked Wayne

Malcolm faced Wayne in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Malcolm came out on top against Wayne by a score of 15-12. The high-scoring effort was just what the Clippers needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Chase Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brixon Meyer, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Mason Wisnieski was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Malcolm pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.3 runs. As for Wayne, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.

Coincidentally, Malcolm and Wayne will both be playing Fairbury the next time they take the field. Wayne will head out to face Fairbury at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, while Malcolm will play them later in the day, at 5:30 p.m.
