Basketball Game Preview: Cesar Chavez Champions vs. South Mountain Jaguars

The Cesar Chavez Champions will square off against the South Mountain Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

South Mountain will be up against a hot Cesar Chavez team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Cesar Chavez took their contest on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 100-24 win over Camelback. Given the Champions' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while the Spartans are ranked 269th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when South Mountain took on Maryvale on Tuesday. South Mountain simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Maryvale 67-6. Winning may never get old, but the Jaguars sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Cesar Chavez is also on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.6 points per game. As for South Mountain, their victory bumped their record up to 11-9.

Everything came up roses for Cesar Chavez against South Mountain in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, as the squad secured a 73-23 win. Will Cesar Chavez repeat their success, or does South Mountain have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
