Basketball Recap: Braddock Bulldogs vs. Olympic Heights Lions

On Monday, the Braddock Bulldogs had to suffer through a 91-62 loss at the hands of the Olympic Heights Lions. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 440th, while the Lions are ranked 189th).

Despite the loss, Braddock saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Liano Lacayo went 6 of 8 en route to 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lacayo has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ray Estay, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 14 points and seven assists.

Sebastian Kamalzadeh had a dynamite game for Olympic Heights, going 8 of 11 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Those five assists gave Kamalzadeh a new career-high. Jake Harbatkin was another key player, going 8 for 16 on his way to 20 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Braddock and nudges their season record down to 8-13. As for Olympic Heights, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Braddock will be playing at home against Varela at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Olympic Heights has already played their next game, a 66-32 victory against Spanish River on the 21st.
