Baseball Game Preview: East Carteret Mariners vs. Havelock Rams

The East Carteret Mariners will be taking part in a tournament against the Havelock Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (East Carteret has 21 straight victories, Havelock has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

East Carteret's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Ocracoke 16-0. The Mariners might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by six runs or more this season.

Bryan Hadder made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Eli Jenkins was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase Roberson, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Havelock lost 16-4 to South Central on Tuesday.

East Carteret pushed their record up to 21-0 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home. As for Havelock, their loss dropped their record down to 4-13.
