Recap: Evans Knights vs. Lakeside Panthers

There's no place like home for the Evans Knights, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They skirted past Lakeside 65-63. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Evans has posted yet this season.

Evans' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Taj Ford led the charge by scoring 26 points along with five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Ford has scored at least a third of Evans' points. Rayshaun King was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds.

Lakeside lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ty Jones, who scored 20 points. Jones hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Mi?keal Grissom, who scored 12 points.

Even though they lost, Lakeside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Evans only pulled down four offensive rebounds.

Evans' victory bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Lakeside, they bumped their record down to 9-5 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Evans won't have much time to rest: their next match is against South Effingham at 3:30 p.m. on January 13th. South Effingham comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Lakeside, they will take on New Hampstead at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. New Hampstead knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Lakeside likes a good challenge.
