The Greenville Trojans will take on the Sharpsville Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Greenville's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Sharpsville has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Greenville proved they can win big on Friday (they won by six) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Oil City 3-1. The three-run effort marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Jacob Csonka spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jackson Leskovac, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Sharpsville came up short against Conneaut Area on Friday and fell 5-2.
Dom Malone put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Malone was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. That run was his first of the season.
Malone wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dominic Tarnoci, who went 1-for-3 with one double. Gabe Titus also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Sharpsville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Greenville, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.
Greenville's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. The Trojans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Sharpsville, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Greenville continue to outrun the ball?
Greenville suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Sharpsville when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
