Basketball Recap: Patel Comes Up Short

Patel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Mitchell Mustangs 82-23. While losing is never fun, the Trailblazers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 551st, while the Mustangs are ranked 162nd).

Xiomari Matthews was Patel's leading scorer, having posted nine points.

Mitchell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dilynne Burrows, who went 7 for 13 on her way to 14 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Malaya Hunter, who went 7 of 14 on her way to 14 points and four steals.

Patel's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Mitchell, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

After both having extra time off, Patel and St. Petersburg Catholic will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Mitchell, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Anclote at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mitchell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.6 points per game this season.
