I Section III recap November 5, 2013
Desert Mountain was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Mesa. The Wolves came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
Adding to the longest winning streak in I Section III this week, Desert Ridge beat Mountain View 56-13. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Jaguars.
Chris Shelton threw for 95 yards and 26 touchdowns. He was 7-12 with 1 interception.
Kyle Allen provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Desert Mountain bested the Jackrabbits. He completed 7 passes for 177 yards and 4 touchdowns and also ran for 9 yards. Allen's favorite target this week was Cruz Olivarez, who caught 5 passes for 110 yards.
Taren Morrison was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 155 yards on 18 carries as Desert Ridge bested Mesa. Teammate Justin Irby added to the ground attack by rushing for 118 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Toros' John Clark and Clark Brown have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Clark has thrown for 2,698 yards this season, while Brown has 60 catches for 1,183 yards. Jeremy Hathcock's team's Morrison leads the league in rushing yards with 1,828.
The most important game in I Section III this week will be the match up between the Jaguars and the Wolves. Desert Ridge enters the contest ranked fifth in the state, while Desert Mountain ranks 24th.
Mountain View lost to the Jaguars 56-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Caleb Daniels ran for 121 yards in the defeat.
